About International Wine Review

Mike Potashnik and Jay Youmans in BordeauxWorking onsite in Bordeaux

We created the International Wine Review (IWR) in September 2005 to provide the wine trade (importers, distributors, retailers, sommeliers) and wine enthusiasts everywhere, with current, accurate information regarding important wines and regions of the world. Our publication is not just a list of wines with scores; we provide insight and understanding as to why wines differ in style and quality.

Combining our in-depth knowledge of wine and our international experience, we produce bi-monthly reports that offer expert tasting notes, ratings, and unique perspectives on selected premium wine varieties. We review as many wines as possible (at least 200 per report) in order to discover the best wines and the best values from a range of price points.

Our reports focus on regions and wines currently gaining market prominence; We offer all producers the opportunity to have their wines tasted and evaluated. We do not screen the wines we review. Many of the wines reviewed are available at our Recommended Retailers across the United States. Some of the wines we review are produced in such small quantities they may only be purchased directly from producers. To assist the reader in finding particular wines, we provide contact information for the producer, or importer.

Our reports are produced in collaboration with an expert Advisory Tasting Panel. These individuals are among the most knowledgeable, experienced wine professionals in the industry. We often invite specialists from the trade to participate in selected tastings as well. Our tasting panel follows the IWR Tasting Guidelines and Principles; we believe this distinguishes us from other tasting methodology of other wine publications.

We are strong advocates of all types of wine education and hope that our reports will contribute to the teaching activities of wine educators across the United States and abroad.

This publication is produced in collaboration with many outstanding individuals who make up our Technical Support Team.
